Adventure Caving - Evening with dinner

Adventure Caving is one of Swaziland's unique top adrenaline pursuits. Launched in April 1999, following the exploration of a unique cave system, Swazi Trails now offer amateur explorers the opportunity to get underground in true speleological fashion. Headlamps, battery packs, muddy passages, bats and lots of total blackness are all part of the experience. Ideal for first-timers, as well as dedicated potholers. Caving is one of Swaziland's unique top adrenaline pursuits. Launched in April 1999, following the exploration of a unique cave system, Swazi Trails now offer amateur explorers the opportunity to get underground in true speleological fashion.

The caves were formed by an ancient boulder choke, which has been further opened and eroded, into subterranean chambers by the passage of water through softer rock material. This is the only known major cave system in granite rock in Southern Africa and thus presents a unique experience. The system can be compared to a giant underground gravel pit, with cavers maneuvering themselves like ants through the myriad of gaps and passageways. Care has to be maintained to stick to the known routes, as portions of the cave remain unexplored. A minor river flows through the bottom of the cave, which can only be reached by athletic and competent groups. The cave location is scenic with tall mountains and surrounding forested areas.

Swazi Local Host (tour guide) - half day

Whether travelling alone (self drive) or in a group, interaction with a local guide is guaranteed to be a memorable event and to add value to your visit to the Kingdom. Even if you have a South African based guide or driver, the addition of a Swazi guide for a half or full day will be a great novelty.

Swazi Trails guides are polite, well spoken and trained to expose visitors to sights and experiences, which are otherwise off the beaten track. Guides are all English speaking.

Standard procedure sees guides dispatched to wait for the arriving group at the border post of entry to Swaziland, or scheduled to meet groups on their arrival at a local hotel. Guides are usually dressed in traditional attire and are happy to pose for photographs. Services include offering answers to difficult questions, assisting with translation at Swazi markets and roadside stops, highlighting local events when in progress and making suggestions to drivers on where to go to make the best use of available time.

Guides are also useful in solving problems and assisting where groups are split to do different activities. The added security of a local guide allows opportunities for greater exploration of off-the-beaten track attractions which otherwise would be missed.
