George is the first stop in the Garden Route. The majestic Outeniqua Mountains are to the North and the Indian Ocean is to the South.

We offer tours inland to the Cango Caves, ostrich farms and all the other gems of the Klein Karoo. We run trips to the romantic Victoria Bay, a cove that is sheltered by cliffs that is also a good surf spot. Vic Bay is just a ten minute drive away. The best way to enjoy the scenic beauty of the Outeniqua Mountains is by bicycle. We will drop you at the top and you can cycle down the historic Montagu Pass back to the backpackers. Board the Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe for a journey on the old steam train between George and Santos Beach in Mossel Bay. Train fanatics will also love the Train Museum with its collection of steam locomotives.

Outeniqua Backpackers is a great meeting place for independent travellers. We’ve recently moved to a new location that is central and close to almost everything. The new house is really spacious and was classy even before we gave it our own little touches. It’s clean and comfy with a congenial atmosphere.
